The NU-X Solid Studio IR & Power Amp Simulator is an IR Loader with built-in cabinet, microphones and microphone positions and power amp simulator with 3 tubes and power amp controls.

The New Era of Mic-ing!
NUX Solid Studio was created and designed to address: limited gear availability, and the cumbersome transport reality of physical amp/speaker cabinets. NUX is proud to introduce the new Verdugo series Solid Studio IR & Power Amp simulator, a pedal version of the most classic amp/cabinet scenarios including microphones and power amp tubes.

Over many years of research, Solid Studio was specifically developed to fill the essential needs of discerning musicians and sound technicians, including the art of mic-ing instrument amplifiers on stage or in the studio. Solid Studio provides ease-of-use, reliability, versatility, and, above all, incredible audio quality.

Virtual mic-ing is achieved by choosing 1 cabinet and 1 microphone, and fine-tuning the position of the microphone using the mic position switch. Plus, you can add the tube sound by engaging the power amp simulation.

What's Inside?
Solid Studio comes with 8 speaker cabinet simulations. All the cabinet models inside the Solid Studio are sounds great as original as the way it feels.

Input/Outputs
NUX Solid Studio has 6.35mm mono input with input signal level toggle switch (-10dB / +4dB). And it has 3 outputs; simulation dedicated STEREO OUTPUT and DI OUT, and a bypass "THRU" output.

Connection Tips
Solid Studio offers a variety of connection ways and it can fit any desired spot on your signal chain to use all the cabinet/mic simulations efficient.

Gig Saver
You can place the Solid Studio at the end of your pedal board, and you can send the simulated sound to the mixer while you can send your original signal to the amp. This connection is very useful if the stage (or studio) and cabinet mic-ing conditions are not good enough.

null

Silent Connection
Direct connection to mixer or audio interface for recording. It gives more alternative cabinet options to record your favorite amplifier sound, especially if there is no chance to use any loudspeaker.

null

Advanced Connection
You can place the Solid Studio between the amp and the cabinet. You can send the loud signal from the amp's cabinet output to the Solid Studio, and you can send the original signal to the cabinet, simulated signal to the mixer/audio interface.

null

WARNING - When you use the advanced connection method:

  • The amplifier's speaker output must be connected to the Solid Studio's input by a SPEAKER CABLE
  • The Solid Studio's THRU output must be connected to the speaker cabinet's input by a SPEAKER CABLE
  • The Solid Studio's output mode must be selected as SPK (SPEAKER)

nullBEFORE YOU PLAY: MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CABLES ARE CONNECTED AND SPEAKER MODE IS SET, TO AVOID THE POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO YOUR AMPLIFIER.

Impulse Response (IR) Loader
You can easily emulate the sound of any guitar cabinet by loading different IRs (Impulse Responses) to NUX Solid Studio. The internet is a huge library and you can find many different IR's (both paid and free). And you can add into Solid Studio to use whenever you want. (Currently, we are developing a software for Solid Studio and there will be more information soon)

Technically, the Most Realistic IR Loader: Solid Studio
Solid Studio’s IR resolution is 2048 samples and 46ms . When talking numbers, IR quality is “measured” with the sample resolution, and it’s “scaled” with ms (milliseconds). On this calculation, 1024 samples equal to 20ms capturing length which is currently the respected standard in the market. The best-known and respected profiler gear offers 2048 samples / 40ms length. The highest IR resolution quality or “limit” is 50ms. Unfortunately it doesn’t yield a realistic sound, and what we’re going after is the “real sound!"

null

So, what makes the Solid Studio unique?
It offers 46ms length which means it can perfectly bring back all of the frequencies (including the elusive low-ends). Regarding length, 20ms is certainly capable of capturing a sound profile with an efficient result but it’s not enough to catch the lower frequencies. That’s why high-end IR gear usually provides the 40ms length - it means higher resolution and better quality.

Consider all of the intricate signal-processing that takes place from your guitar to your ear. Solid Studio delivers that signal in the blink of an eye with impeccable accuracy. How? Solid Studio’s high-quality processor / perfect algorithm simply deliver a lightning-fast speed which also limits the signal latency from input-to-output to less than 1 ms.

Why is this so important?
It’s common for IR equipment to have a signal latency coming-in at around 2 ms, and considering that each pedal on the signal-chain lengthens the signal path it further increases the latency. For example: the fastest multi-effect pedal needs 2 ms to deliver the sound, if you add “average” IR equipment to the equation, the latency will be 4ms, that’s ~barely~ workable for a guitar player. If it’s more than 5 ms it’s simply too slow and it’s basically unusable. Less than 1 ms is pretty darn awesome ;)

IR Capture
You can capture any of your favorite amplifiers sound and create your own IR file by Solid Studio. Place the microphone to the front of the speaker and adjust the capturing position as you desire.

null

How to capture and create an IR file:

  • Hold both foot switches, and plug-in the power cable. IR Capture mode will be activated.
  • Make the connections between the Solid Studio, amplifier, microphone preamp and the microphone. (Check the IR Capture connection figure above)
  • Choose a preset where you want to save your own IR file. (8 cabs * 3 mic positions * 8 mics = 192 patches)
  • Press "Cab" foot switch, this will send the impulse signal and it will run from power amp to the speaker. Then your microphone will capture the impact sound and send the signal to the Solid Studio's input. Your very own IR file is ready to use.
  • Important note: Update the Solid Studio firmware for using the IR capture function. (You can find all the necessary files and the update instruction on the support page)
