Pacific Scene expresses the composer's impressions of the coastline from San Diego to Seattle. The unifying motive of the piece, first heard in the introduction, symbolizes the grandeur of the Pacific Ocean. The first theme portrays the changing seascape, while the second fugato theme depicts the panorama of the coastline.
