5 percussionists (1 Xylophone 1 Glockenspiel 2 Marimbas 1 Vibraphone 1 Bass-Marimba Bongos 5 Teponaztli [aztec wooden slit-drum])
This work in two movements is inspired by the Mexican marimba tradition. From Veracruz to San Cristobal de la Casas, I have encountered this happy or melancholy, but always festive music. It is usually played on the street or on the terrace of a cafe by a group of one to five players on the same instrument.
