With brilliant woodwind passages, colorful percussion and a strong melodic statement, this exciting work draws inspiration from the music of the early Greek Orthodox Church. The music is largely characterized by its brisk, free-flowing quality. Woodwinds and percussion ring out vividly to introduce a bold trumpet statement. As the melodic content passes through several sections of the ensemble, many variations in style and tonal color can be heard. The music becomes gradually slower and stronger as the ending approaches, yielding a powerful final chord. (3:30)
