This book takes the reader backstage into the private lives of famous musicians who started their careers by playing the piano. Sketched with a light touch, the profiles present entertaining, little-known facts about these superstars, showing them to be human beings, just like the rest of us.

Although originally written for younger piano students, junior-high age or older, They All Sat Down offers an easy course in music appreciation for people of all ages and professions. The list of pianists included in this book includes familiar names such as the Bach family, Mozart, Beethoven, the Schumanns, to less familiar, including brief profiles on Hovhaness and Emma Lou Diemer.
