After an opening gong, the compositions motif is presented by solo flute, accompanied by soft low woodwinds, then clarinets, then tutti. The main theme, a somber melody in Dorian mode, is first introduced in a slow tempo, then as an agitated Allegro with aggressive percussion. Excellent for contest or festival.
