The work was written on the eve of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, after which the worsening political situation made it impossible for the composer to take part in a music festival. In the composition, Waterhouse uses a fragment of a Ukrainian folk song and thus refers to the cultural treasures of the attacked country. Nevertheless, at the end of the piece Waterhouse strikes up an optimistic, peaceful tone and thus sets a strong, hopeful musical sign.
